TENS Therapy

TENS Treatment in Brampton

TENS therapy involves the transmission of low-voltage electrical impulses to the injured areas of your body. It changes the perception of pain in your brain while releasing the natural painkillers in your body. This non-invasive therapy reduces pain associated with conditions like tendinitis, osteoarthritis and arthritis.

At Physiotherapy First, we guide our patients through TENS therapy to help them deal with a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions. The team explains how the device works and proceeds once you feel comfortable.

What Does a TENS Unit Look Like?

The TENS unit is a small electrical device that runs on batteries. It comprises two electrodes with adhesive tapes on one side of each. Once the device is switched on, it sends low-voltage electrical current to the electrodes through lead wires.

The therapist attaches the electrodes directly to your skin. They, however, identify the areas that feel stiff and immobile first. They adjust the strength of the electric current based on your response to the treatment.

How Does it Impact Your Pain?

The subtle electric current sent through the electrodes does all the work. They trigger the nerve cells which block the pain signals. Thus, your perception of pain changes during the treatment. The current also increases your endorphin levels in the body. These hormones bring relief to your mind and body.

How Can Physiotherapy First Help?

We don’t recommend TENS therapy straightaway without any research. Instead, our team conducts a full physical examination to detect the underlying causes of your pain. We diagnose the problem and determine the right treatment plan specific to your condition.

In the case of TENS, we explain the entire procedure and make you comfortable before proceeding. We observe your progress and adjust the intensity of electrical impulses accordingly. We ensure that you feel better and healthier after each session.
