custom made foot orthotics in Brampton

Custom Orthotics in Brampton

Foot pain or discomfort is not just about the feet. It affects your entire foundation through the knees, hips and lower back. Generic, store-bought inserts often fall short in treating foot problems since they provide temporary relief, with zero biomechanical correction. Customized orthotics, on the other hand, are specifically designed to align your body, eliminate discomfort and get you back to moving with total confidence. At Physiotherapy First, we combine advanced biomechanical scanning and medical-grade materials to provide you with custom-made orthotics or shoe inserts. In Brampton, custom orthotics are recommended to those whose every step feels like a struggle. Whether it’s flat feet, age or conditions like plantar fasciitis that are causing you problems, you will find your solutions here.

What are Custom Orthotics?

Custom orthotics are medical-grade biomechanical shoe inserts. Unlike the generic, ready-made inserts, the custom-made ones are specifically engineered to match the unique contours of your feet and movement pattern. They are designed to guide your foot into its neutral position, preventing strain. Besides structural alignment, custom-made orthotics distribute your body weight evenly across the entire foot, helping with conditions like bunions. In simple words, customized orthotics provide the necessary structural and mechanical support to your foot so that it can function in its full capacity.

Conditions We Treat

How Do We Build Custom Foot Orthotics in the Brampton Clinic?

Biomechanical Assessment

Our specialist analyzes your entire gait, including your foot’s weight-bearing capacities and range of motion. They will perform a detailed examination to determine how your feet are causing stress in other areas of your body.

Foot Scanning

Foot Scanning

We use high-resolution 3D digital scanning to get a precise 3D model of your feet using our Scancast laser scanning system. We will also take an impression of your feet. Using the laser scan and foot impression, we will create a mould for your custom orthotics and send it to the laboratory to be made.

prescription

Design and Prescription

The specialist prescribes what type of orthotics you need based on the assessment and sends them for design. Your new custom foot orthotics will arrive in about a week. Once it does, we will contact you to schedule your next appointment.

Final Fit Check

Final Fit Check

Once the orthotics arrive, you return to the clinic for the final fit check and the doctor’s further advice.

Frequently Asked Questions of Custom Orthotics

Here are some Commonly Asked Questions

Custom foot orthotics reduce the strains misaligned feet can cause. They correct abnormalities and help provide support to the feet in the precise locations where it is required. They also help address imbalances in the feet, like flat arches.

For instance, if you have flat feet without a well-defined arch, it can cause strains and pains in the ankles, hips, knees, and lower back. By being fitted for custom foot orthotics, the new insole provides the necessary arch support to alleviate the stress on the other areas of the body while supporting proper foot alignment.

We highly recommend that after 1 year of wearing orthotics, patients come in for another biomechanical assessment to evaluate the effectiveness of their orthotics. With time, plastics wear down and orthotics lose their ability to ideally correct your feet. The re-assessment is advised in order to determine if your current orthotics are still functioning optimally or if it is time for you to be recast for a new pair.

Most Extended Health Care (EHC) plans provide coverage for one pair every 1–2 years, though custom orthotics are not covered by OHIP in Ontario.
